They say that “nobody walks in LA.” However, many would beg to differ. Say what you will about Los Angeles, but appearance is important here, and most people fail to realize the true value that a quality pair of sneakers can have. The following are the best options for looking decked out and walking the streets in style:

Sportie LA
Sportie
offers stores at both the West and East end of the Melrose shopping strip. The stores are stocked to the gills with sneakers – literally hundreds of different styles are piled onto the walls, everything from Vans slip-ons to Timberland boots, athletic shoes, and everything in between. If a sneaker isn’t available at one of the stores, suggest to the employee to call the other one and see if it is available there. This is probably the best sneaker store in town, and forms the head of the Fairfax area’s sneaker contingency.

Adidas Originals
Just down the street from Sportie is the Adidas Originals store. Spoiler alert – the store only carries Adidas, but enough of them to deck out anyone from a gold-chain wearing 70’s rapper to a Chelsea soccer fan. If a style isn’t available in a certain size it can be easily ordered to pick up a few days later. The sales staff are friendly and attentive, and the prices are very hard to beat.

Drip
Drip
prides itself on carrying a variety of sneakers perfect for hitting the club – everything from cheetah print loafers to vintage Jordans. Some of the styles are a little ‘out there’ so those looking for basic garden variety sneakers should choose another store.

WSS
WSS
offers name brand sneakers at discounted prices. Everything from boots and sandals to athletic shoes, this is the best bargain sneaker store in L.A. Customers serve themselves, as WSS has all of their shoes stacked up in their showroom, making for a quick experience with no waiting around. Groupons and other coupon services are often available for those willing to look around.

Supreme
The only location on the West Coast, Supreme caters to what could probably be referred to as “sneaker-snobs.” The employees are not necessarily the most friendly, and a lot of what you’re paying for is the exclusivity of the brand. That being said, Supremeis definitely worth checking out for the experience, especially for those new to Fairfax’s sneaker scene. The sneakers and clothing are indeed one of a kind.
