“Tired, bulky, Death-star like, and aesthetically-challenged” are just a few words and phrases that have been used to describe the Beverly Center located in Beverly Hills.
The popular LA shopping destination has been open since 1982 and has been able to meet the needs of the local and visiting shoppers, and has even made appearances in several movies. However, this eyesore needs a serious overhaul inside and out.
The Beverly Center is finally set to get a complete facelift by the premier Italian firm, Studio Fuksas. Based in Rome, Studio Fuksas has been hailed as one of the most renowned architecture firms in all of Italy and has designed numerous projects including the Fiera building in Milan, the cultural center in Chengdu, China and the French National Archives—all projects hailed as innovative, contemporary and majestic. The owner and head architect is Massimiliano Fuksas and his wife Doriana is a close collaborator in many of the firm’s endeavors.
The Fuksas style is known for being very imaginative with a fresh approach to modern architecture. Their work has been described as “ethereal” with open spaces and a lot of natural lighting. It seems Fuksas takes inspiration from many natural elements. This can certainly be seen in the Tbilisi Public Service Hall design, as it looks like the buildings have sprouted beneath a mushroom forest with the large “petals” draped over the offices.
Studio Fuksas should be the perfect match to take on the Beverly Center redesign. This high-class mall deserves to have a frame worthy of the designer stores it houses.
