Los-Angeles-Kings

As the reigning champs of the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings are proving that there’s more to L.A. sports than just the Dodgers and the Lakers. The Kings’s first ever Stanley Cup win in the 2011-12 season proved to the nation (and to Canada) that professional ice hockey is serious business in the City of Angels. Following the teams recent success, more Angelenos and visitors are making special plans to spend a night with the Los Angeles Kings.

Los Angeles’s Crowning Glory

Witnessing the Los Angeles Kings play live is special for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that they are the reigning Stanley Cup champs that deserve to be cheered on to another history-making franchise victory. When goaltender Jonathan Quick was named the MVP after last season’s victory, he said, “I think it’s all about competing. You have to compete, always. That’s something this organization preaches, and it makes us all feel so good to be on top now.” Quick’s praise of his team is what fans really like about the Los Angeles Kings: despite a handful of star athletes, the players all function as a team, something other franchises have not always been able to do.

Hotspots Before and After the Game

Since the Kings play at the Staples Center (just like the Lakers and the Clippers), there are tons of sports bars and restaurants in the area to keep the excitement going before and after the game. One of the best sports bars in the area is the Los Angeles Brewing Company. The brewery is open until 2am every day and lets hockey enthusiasts raise the rowdiness level in honor of the Kings’s latest victory after each game. For those who can’t find a ticket, this also a great option watch the game live on one of the many giant screens located throughout the bar.

Another popular sports bar in the area is the Bonaventure Brewing Company, famous for its happy hour $4 cocktails, beers and spirits that are perfect for before the big game. A back patio here offers expansive views of downtown Los Angeles during breaks from the action on the ice.

Chomping Like a Champ

For food before or after the Los Angeles Kings games, El Cholo is a Los Angeles institution near the Staples Center with old-style Mexican food and world famous margaritas. The Classic Gold is a favorite.

Also high on the list of favorites among Kings fans is Rock’n Fish, one of L.A. Live’s most happening hotspots that servesseafood and steaks. One of the best places to go as a group or to reserve a private party, Rock’n Fish is known for being one of the most fun and high energy eateries in all of Los Angeles. Their specialties include regional American classics like New England Clam Chowder, Jumbo Louisiana Crab Cakes, Seattle-Style Shrimp and Avocado Louie, and Maine Lobster Tail.

For those feeling extra-extravagant, new concept restaurant from Wolfgang Puck named WP24 is located near the Staples Center. Located on the 24th floor of the Ritz-Carlton downtown, WP24 has some of the most amazing modern Asian cuisine this side of Hong Kong. Their most popular dishes include the Peking Duck Rolls, Spicy Korean Beef Tartar and a Glazed Ranch Quail.
