For avid readers looking looking to spruce up their fall reading list and local authors finally ready to publish their own great American novel, the West Hollywood Bookfair arrives September 30 with a full lineup of authors ready to dispel the notion that book fairs are full of old books, professors searching for lost texts and cranky librarians.

Highlights this year include Roberto Martin, personal chef of Ellen Degeneres and author of Vegan Cooking for Carnivores; Andrew McCarthy, award-winning travel writer and editor-at-large of National Geographic; and Gigi Levangie Grazer, a New York Times bestselling author.

Several panels focus on the LGBT lit scene, a topic discussed extensively at the LGBT Lounge. And Eric Erlandson, lead guitarist and co-founder of Hole, brings a taste of rock ’n’ roll with Letters to Kurt, a book on his friendship with Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. Erland is also featured on a panel titled “Documenting Music History.”

The book fair features leading authors, a full lineup of discussion forums and more than 100 exhibitors. Thirteen stages are organized specific to genre: The Park Stage, Fiction Pavilion, Behind the Screens, Culinary Pavilion, Toddlers, Tweens, & Teens, Mystery, Comics & Sci-Fi, News and Views, LGBT Lounge, Poet’s Corner, Children’s Theater, West Hollywood Writes, the Eclectic Cafe and the Writer’s Workshop.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from MFA programs at Goddard College and UC Riverside and literature associations will also be in attendance, including the HWA Horror Writers Association and the Women’s National Book Association.
