Whale-watching

Los Angeles is recognized as top whale watching destination and visitors from around the world take advantage of the opportunity for coastal tours in the Pacific Ocean.

December through April is the best window to catch the grey whale migration off the Los Angeles coast. The coastline is positioned along the annual migration path that brings thousands of grey whales along the California coast within minutes of South Bay.

May through November is a period of warmer water, which brings blue whales up to 80 feet long, dense pods of up to 1,000 dolphins,  finback and minke whales, sharks, seals and many other marine creatures. Whale-watching cruises are available for private parties, ideal for school trips or business groups, and regular scheduled tours are open for individuals or smaller groups.
