About "4x4"

"4x4" Showcases New Drama, Music & Dance Works by Top L.A. Latino/a Artists

Highways Performance Space's "4x4" showcases original works from four of the city's most exciting emerging Latino and Latina artists. Martin Matamoros' "Desert Portraits" takes audiences on a personal odyssey to meet the artist's family deep within the Las Vegas desert, while Eva Montealegre's "Anne Bonny! From the Crow's Nest" uses prose, choreography, music and sound to get inside the head and heart of Bonny, the infamous "people's pirate." Brazilian-born artist Leopold Nunan's "Leo From Rio" is an energetic blend of live instrumentation, electronic music and athletic dance that takes a nostalgic trip back to the techno clubs of the 1990s. And "In Bocca al Lupo" uses the work of 1970s Cuban songstress La Lupe -- her music, her tumultuous life and her wild stage antics -- to explore themes of competition, celebrity, power, vulnerability and authenticity.
