About "Exit the King"

Ionesco's Tragicomedy Explores the Death of a Leader

Based on a new translation by Neil Armfield and Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush that played to great success on Broadway, A Theatre Connection's latest production of Ionesco's absurdist classic promises to deliver an innovative theatrical experience with spectacular design elements, along with a shocking ending. The story centers around King Berenger, rumored to be more than 400 years old, who's been told that he is dying and that the kingdom is crumbling around him. Deeply in denial, the monarch refuses to relinquish the throne and it falls to his pragmatic first wife, Queen Marguerite, to break his majesty of his delusions and bring him to acceptance. Rush's performance as the King won him the Tony in 2009.
