"Antigone": Jean Anouilh's Daring Reimagining of Greek Tragedy

As one of drama's most compelling heroines, Jean Anouilh's Antigone symbolized defiance during the Nazi occupation of France. Now A Noise Within's resident artist Robertson Dean adapts Anouilh's reimagining of Sophocles' Greek tragedy "Antigone" -- and it's "as relevant now as at any other time," according to the "Los Angeles Times". While "Antigone"'s anti-establishment message slipped under the Nazi regime's radar, it rings loud and clear on stage in this classic tale of a dead soldier's outraged sister who's determined to give her brother proper burial rites. As Antigone accepts her fate with fearless grace, she dares us all to look closely at our personal values and those of the world in which we live.
